No Guinness on tap? No worries. We’ve come up with what we believe are 8 of the best St Patrick’s Day cocktails. To be sure, to be sure to get the party started!
Traditional St Patrick’s Day cocktails
We start our Top 8 with a few of the more traditional St Patrick’s Day cocktails. With sweet, sour, Irish Whisky, and Cider based cocktails, there’s bound to be something to please everyone.
Irish Flag
Grab a Shot Glass (preferably clear, unetched glass), pour in 30ml of Crème de Menthe. Place the tip of a spoon against the edge of the Shot Glass, then slowly pour 30ml of Irish Cream Liqueur until it forms a 2nd layer. Again using the spoon, float 30ml of Grand Marnier on top of the Irish Cream Liqueur. Sláinte!
Irish Buck
To make the Irish buck, fill a Hiball Glass with ice, then add 45ml Irish Whisky and 7.5ml Fresh Lime Juice. Top with approximately 60ml of Ginger ale and gently stir with a Bar Spoon. Garnish with a slice of fresh lime. Sláinte!
Irish Royale
A twist on the Scotch Royale, but using Irish Whisky, place a sugar cube in the bottom of a Champagne Flute. Douse the sugar cube with a few generous splashes of Angostura Bitters. Add 45ml of Irish Whisky and top with cold champagne. Sláinte!
Tully 10 Cider
Place 2 or 3 mint leaves and 15ml of Sugar Syrup in a Cocktail Shaker. With a Muddler, muddle well to dissolve the sugar and release the oils and aroma of the mint. Add 45ml of Tullamore Dew 10 year Old Irish Whisky, 45ml Irish Apple Cider (e.g. Magners), and 15ml of Lime Juice. Fill with ice and shake well. Using a Strainer, pour into a Pint Glass or Beer Glass filled with ice. Garnish with a sprig of mint. Sláinte!
Lucky Leprechaun Rum
Place 2 Cocktail Glasses in the freezer to chill. Half fill a Cocktail Shaker with ice, add equal parts Captain Morgan spiced rum, Malibu, Midori Melon Liquor, and Blue Curacao Liquor with a splash of pineapple juice. Shake vigorously until the shaker turns frosty. Using a Strainer, pour the liquid into the chilled Cocktail Glasses. Sláinte!
Misty Mint
Three-quarter fill a Hurricane Glass with crushed ice. Add 45ml of Crème de Menthe and 30ml of White Rum. Gently stir with a Bar Spoon and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint. Sláinte!
Trendy St Patrick’s Day cocktails
If traditional cocktails are too vanilla, then why not offer one of these St Patrick’s Day cocktails.
Matcha Honey Spritzer
For those wanting a blast of antioxidants and a boost of energy for that Irish jig, you have to try this spritzer! In an Old Fashioned Tumbler Glass, dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of Matcha Powder in 1 teaspoon of warm water. Stir in 1 tablespoon of Honey and mix well. Add ice, 90ml of dry White Wine, and 60ml of Ginger ale. Garnish with a slice of lemon. Sláinte!
Green Apple Ginger Martini
This martini uses a Ginger infused Vodka. Simply pour 120ml Vodka into a sealable jar then add a 2cm piece of fresh Ginger (peeled and grated). Put the lid on tightly then shake gently. Set this aside for at least 2 hours to infuse. When you’re ready, strain the vodka pressing on the ginger to extract all the liquid and ginger flavour.
Place 2 Cocktail Glasses in the freezer to chill.
To make the Green Apple and Lime Juice, place 1 large Granny Smith Apple, cored and cut into thin slices, into a Blender. Add 60ml water and the juice of 1 or 2 limes. Blend on high until smooth. Strain through a fine mesh strainer pressing on the pulp to extract all of the juice, then set aside. (Alternatively, put the Apple through a Juicer then add the juice of the limes.)
Finally, half fill a Cocktail Shaker with ice, add the Apple and Lime Juice, the Ginger inflused Vodka, and 15ml of Maple Syrup (or Honey). Shake vigorously until the shaker turns frosty. Using a Strainer, pour this delicious cocktail into the chilled Martini Glasses. Garnish with a thin slice of green apple. Sláinte!
